MYTH:
The whole purpose of doing weight training is to be buffed.
FACT:
The fact is that proper weight training has numerous benefits:
• Increases muscular strength and endurance
• Maintains muscularity and increases bone density … which is
important because women naturally have less bone and muscle
than men, which places them at a higher risk of osteoporosis.
• Increases the resting metabolic rate--which means with more
muscle women can burn more calories when at rest
• Increases the HDL Cholesterol (good) and decreases the LDL
(bad) Cholesterol
• Improves glucose metabolism … which plays a role in curtailing
diabetes (insulin sensitivity)
• Improves everyday activity levels ... everyday chores and activities
are less physically taxing which brings about a sense of well being
… especially true for older women
MYTH:
To burn fat, it’s best to exercise on an empty stomach.
FACT:
An empty stomach is more likely to cause you to fatigue quickly when working out, compromising your ability to work out at an optimal performance level. A better plan is to eat a small breakfast meal or snack with protein and carbohydrates such as a whole grain cereal with low fat milk.
